From the Indie Rock Scene to your living room!

Before the name Our City Radio was ever conceived, 2 brothers sat at a kitchen table one late afternoon and asked each other the most serious question of their lives. Both struggling in their personal lives, teaching themselves to play the guitar, and feeling more and more like there was something bigger than them both. They made a choice that day and soon afterward, Maxx and Bruno hit the airwaves in a caveman like set-up that started the independent rock streaming, and eventually gave birth to multiple websites, networks and various independent radio stations across the country! It all started with the Rock Channel.

Indie and Independent Rock

When you don’t belong to a label, or don’t want to, the public has a tendency to call it Indie Rock, which is actually a form of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s. Indie rock is extremely diverse, with sub-genres that include lo-fi, post-rock, math rock, indie pop, dream pop, noise rock, space rock, sadcore, riot grrrl and emo, among others. Yes, I linked those all to wikipedia cuz I copied that line directly so I didn’t have to type it! The indie genre’s above cover a pretty wide arena in the rock stadium, especially in the independent field. That was confusing wasn’t it? Indie is the style of rock, independent refers to the artists being supported by a label or doing it solo. Get it? I hope so cuz even I’m confused now!
